The nationwide finale of the Young Car Mechanic competition, organized by Inter Cars, gathered 10 best mechanics, who won the qualifiers.
The virtual and real world
Nationwide finale of the Young Car Mechanic contest, organized by Inter Cars, was held on 20 April in company’s training centre. 10 pupils took part in it, who were the best in qualifiers - i.e. the first two stages of the contest, held on-line, using a purpose-made application game “Car Mechanic Simulator”.
In a virtual garage they were to find a malfunction on a vehicle, select proper parts and tools and finally realize a repair in a proper way. The game was split into two levels, which were with different difficulty level.
– Other companies also organize similar contests, but not on such a scale and in such an innovative way, as it is done in the case of Young Car Mechanic. This is the first contest of this type - very modern and on the net. Encouraging young people to learn by playing the computer. Boys, who got into the finale, told us that the game is really cool, and some of the parts of vehicles were really realistic. They did care to get access to the full version - emphasised Krzysztof Czerech, deputy director for practical training centre, in mechanical schools complex in Białystok.
During the finale of Young Car Mechanic Polska the participants got a chance of trying themselves in a real world. They had to face theoretical knowledge questions and also practical tasks. They had to realize car repairs and different element repairs, and also had to prove their knowledge regarding technical documentation use, using tools and electronic devices. On professional pitches the time and quality of realization were judged.
- During the theoretical phase there were quite simple questions, but in the second part, one had to think really deeply to be able to find a solution. The most difficult task was to perform dual-mass flywheels measurements. One had to take lots of things into consideration there - admitted Bartosz Cichocki from Mechanical Schools Complex - practical training centre in Białystok.
- It was the most difficult for me check the vehicle with an oscilloscope. I am not friends with electronics. I prefer purely mechanical tasks. The easiest practical task, according to me, was measuring coolant, brake fluid and windscreen washer fluid - added Arkadiusz Wróbel, pupil from Practical Training Centre in Siedlce.
Finaly the winner was Mikołaj Banaszak, representing Technical Schools Complex named by Powstańcy Wielkopolscy in Śrem.
– Frankly speaking, I did not bet that I will do so well. Of course, going to the finale I was counting on getting onto the podium, but I was not counting on being the first, but rather third. The victory was a surprise for me - said the winner.
The podium was also taken by Bartosz Cichocki from Mechanical Schools Complex - Practical Training Centre in Białystok and Arkadiusz Wróbel from Practical Training Centre in Siedlce.
All ten participants of the finale got a set of garage wrenches and packs of gadgets founded by Play Way company. Moreover they can still use the licences for “Car Mechanic Simulator” software which was used during the competition.
