Opening of the ILS European Logistics and Development Centre in Zakroczym had a very official and ceremonial character. The official part was started by Wojciech Aleksandrowicz, the President of the Management Board of ILS, Daughter Company belonging to Inter Cars Group. „The beginning of the centre associates strongly for me with a car journey. JI was going together with Krzysztof Oleksowicz, who showed me three devastated halls. From that moment we just had to act” – recollected Wojciech Aleksandrowicz.
The ILS European Logistics Centre in Zakroczym - Swobodnia 35, located 5 km away from S7 road between Warszawa and Gdańsk and 3 km as the crow flies from Modlin airport, is the most modern warehouse dealing with distribution of automotive spare parts in Europe, intended to take the main load of servicing the customers of Inter Cars. The most modern technologies, which till now had only been used by American companies, are installed in the warehouse. Construction started back in 2014.
„Opening the Centre is hugely important for the Company, as in our warehouse in Czosnów we are already missing free space, and we had to start looking for other possibilities” – said Krzysztof Oleksowicz, Member of the Management Board of Inter Cars. „Modern technologies used here are a chance for crucial speeding up important processes and reducing costs, and this is what we were aiming at. Whereas, the customers will be provided faster access to wide range of products. Moreover the modern sorters will be able to eliminate human errors” – added Krzysztof Oleksowicz.
On the area of 15 ha there are three halls. The main warehouse hall has the area of 30 thousand square metres. It has been equipped with a rack system, composed of 4 levels of 14 thousand sq. m. each, 17 thousand pallet places, 18 thousand shelf places and a conveyor system with total length of 11 km, connected with two modern sorters. The height of the hall is 10 metres. Total area of the rack system is 56k square metres. Thereto a 2-storey steel platform has been prepared, with total are of 1.4k square metres on each level. Thanks to a sprinkler system assembled in the rack system, the warehouse has very good fire protection measures.
The two smaller halls have 5 thousand square metres each. In one of them there are tyres - its maximum “capacity” is 80 thousand pieces. Liquid products are stored in the second hall.
The ILS European Logistics and Development Centre is using a purpose made system for sorting goods. The sorter system is composed of stock replenishment station and returns service station, conveyors; cross belt sorter for goods, sorting them for customers and shipping sorter (dividing parcels to different delivery directions). Thanks to such solution it is be possible to serve 30k items of goods and 2.5k packs of goods per hour. The supplier of conveyor and sorter system is Beumer Company.
Cross-belt sorter is a sorting system with cross construction. The goods are placed on wide square belts, which move in established trajectory. In a proper place, the belt directs the goods on it to the left or right. Removing the goods to a proper chute is realized by turning the belt mechanically. The risk of collection errors will be minimized practically to zero - cross-belt sorter gives 99% certainty of correct item sorting. The speed of the sorter is 1.5 m/s.
Whilst shoe sorter is a device which provides high efficiency and accuracy of sorting many kinds of goods. It is a horizontal, highly efficient sorting system, which conveyor is made of pressed aluminium profiles. The construction of the conveyor is closed so no goods can fall or be stuck. Sliding elements of the sorter move gently along the profiles, changing the direction of goods which are moved towards the slide to the point of collection. The system makes it possible to sort to one or both sides of the conveyor. Its role is sorting shipping totes to defined shipping routes. Thanks to the modern sorters the goods are sorted to 720 customers simultaneously.
The ILS European Logistics and Development Centre will continue to be developed. At the end of 2016, a contract for building another hall was signed. It will be located on the area of 4,553 square metres. In its southern wall there will be 6 gates, of which 5 will be a dock type. Moreover there will be connectors built between already existing halls, and one additional, connecting the new hall with the other buildings. It is also planned to cover with a roof the one-thousand-metre area which is being created as a result of building the new hall, which shall be used as a shelter. Also the roads shall be developed, connecting new buildings inside the centre. The project also includes modernization of two already existing, smaller halls, which include fitting lighting installation and fire protection systems. The construction of the new hall is to be finished by 31 August 2017, and the total cost is to be PLN 13.9m.
Besides the Members of the Management Board, employees of Inter Cars also took part in the opening of the Centre. After the official part, the meeting was continued in a festive atmosphere, and the guests had a nice time with i.e. Rudi Schubert and Vox Group.
